Thoughts aloud, directed at the Nuclear Ostrich Oversight Commission:
I wonder if, in the thirty years since the Model 1 was noticed to be likely to melt if the water ran out, anyone figured out how big of a reservoir and catch tank, would be required to keep the core cool while it was shut down mechanically. Let’s see, perhaps even place that reservoir above the level of the cores, and the catch-tank below.
I wonder if they ever thought seriously about that mechanical shutdown; The button to lower the control rods always worked before…
Just because ‘crack’ sells well and strengthens it own market, does not mean that is what we should be “doing”.
